Canny Ong’s murder trial - my thoughts
Well, I’ve been following the murder trial lately and just wanted to have my comment heard…
As before (my initial post about Canny Ong started here: Murder of Canny Ong…), I’m still deeply intrigued by the response of the 2 plainclothes policemen who questioned the accused murder suspect, Ahmad Najib Aris and Canny Ong in Kelana Jaya - long before the murder and rape took place.
Read the news yesterday about the policemen’s testimony to court for the murder trial - can see here at Bernama
Still can’t understand… why ON EARTH they didn’t pursue further or report the incident to the police station/command centre when:
- the policemen took both Ahmad Najib and Canny’s IC for verification
- they noticed Canny was giving hand signal of some sorts
- Ahmad Najib refused to get out of the car when instructed by the policemen
- A sudden change of reaction by Ahmad, where he wound up the window, locked the door, started the engine and sped off
- Leaving the scene without first taking back the ICs from the policemen
- Policemen fired 2 shots at the fleeing car (in which a tyre got punctured)
- Policemen gave chase to the fleeing car
Tell me, HOW COME IT DIDN’T WARRANT REPORTING THE INCIDENT BACK TO STATION/COMMAND CENTRE RIGHT AWAY WHEN 2 SHOTS WERE FIRED? HAVE THEY NO NEED TO REPORT THE USE OF FIREARMS DURING PATROL?
How can the policemen not take down the car number details during their patrol - since they were investigating the presence of the car in the first place! How come there’s no swift action to help the girl?
Still irks me plenty to know that the rape and murder of Canny Ong could’ve been prevented!
So what if our police force is one of the best in solving crimes when they did little to PREVENT CRIMES in the FIRST PLACE?
What do you think of this? Would like to hear your opinion… pen them in the comment section below…

hehe I think the Police force need to make the exam to be police more difficult and have to passed more type of tests, especially like in this case, the use of sight is very important in identifying suspect, fast response also needed. hehehe Thats what I think. :-p

It is a sad fact but this is just typically a Malaysian *…culture…* ignorant as usual.

The quality of Malaysian Police is really attributed to the shitty salaries they get. Not a lot of people wanna be cops so we’re left with a lot of factory rejects who can’t get jobs elsewhere. When you pay peanuts, you get monkeys.
Perhaps it’s about time someone did something about the dismal salaries that cops get. And the horrible accommodation they have to put up with! Heck, this might even reduce bribery.

I agree with Spit wholeheartedly. Too often we see the police as being a career that’s second best. These people have families too, and perhaps a pay raise (and better training infrastructure) could elevate their now tarnished image.

that aside, I still think malay mail has a lot to catch up with. I thought yesterday’s Canny Ong’s header entitled ‘No Positive Image of Canny’ was stupidly insensitive and gave a lot of negative connotations about the poor girl. apart from being the most publicised rape case of this year… i still think its sick that she had to become famous this way. and that the papers are making money out of the news.
Sick sick sick.

i agree that when you pay peanuts, you get monkeys. but i cant believe that the 2 cops are THAT, how should i put it, urm, not-smart. they lack common sense. with the IC, they have already identified canny ong as the missing person, they should have already shot the kidnapper in the torso, or legs, or arm, or something.
god, malaysia is NOT a safe place to live in, thanks to police officers as above, which we cannot entirely blame them since they are monkeys after all.
i wonder if canny ong’s family can sue the police force.
prevention is better than cure.

In order to be “one of the best in solving crimes”, there must be crimes to solve, right? Well, if they prevent crimes, then there won’t be crimes to solve, right? And they won’t be “one of the best in solving crimes”, right?

Instead of blaming the police … what about looking at Canny’s action in the whole scene. Hand signals? Is that the best that she could do? He didn’t gag her, hence she could have said something. She could just get out of the car when the police was there or even when the other witnesses were checking on her … etc.
Jeez … It’s so sad to think that a black belt taekwondo girl like her could be so weak!!! I don’t think she was that dumb! Was she?!!

Conspiracy theories or well just a stories to sell newspaper huh?! this case have been drag too long. what is our policeman doing for god sake! from getting their IC and case detail, until now they dont even have a solid evidence to proof anything. i remember they took a bloody week to prove the body is Canny’s. So call DNA test from a uni.
I remember one news mentioned that she did try to make facial expression when this witness that approached her on that day, but she didnt even move a muscle or trying to run. im thinking that if she had been drug or been injected with some kind of chemical, this kind of thing is possible. the point is y the body didnt going through an autopsy to test her remains for any evidence for drug and chemical. i believe the technology now will be able test this out, right? well now might be too late for that!
whether is a planned murder or a random pick up is beyond our judgement, as we must understand the suspect motive/s. did anyone heard anything from the court session talking about this guy favorites sex topic? u know like did police found out that this guy is really a sex maniac of some sort from the evidence from the suspect house. i have been thinking, a husband(going to be father)and a good staff would do this kind of thing that will ruin his life? a J.ihad will basically worth it but i do not think this guy is dumb enough to do this rape and kill. did he have a strong financial backup or did he have something to do with datuk or along. this is important here. if this guy not going to tell the stories who else will, the policeman. they have to find out. can u imaging, other country able to catch a murderer by just giving out forensic evidence, as we malaysian, even they have so much proof(or even no clue at all or ’sekarang buat apa haa tuan’) and the suspect is still custody for what 6 months to a year. Or someone just wants this case to be forgotten!

We all felt frastrated, angry ,eager to know why? she have all the oppurtunity to escape and yet it didn’t happen. It is just like watching a horror movie, and we got so excited trying to understand why didn’t the victim fight back or ran away?
I guess this is her faith.

Looks like Canny Ong’s “MURDER” Trial is less popular than “Abuse” Maid (Normala). The public is more interested in the case of abuse maid.
Hello! Malaysian wake-up! MURDER is a serious crime.
The murderer, legally can have four wives,
he can fuck all he can with the wives, why fuck CHINESE? His daughter will have the same faith like Canny Ong.

All I believe there is story behind this story. Unless Canny being influence by drug, she could make her way to escape cause there is numerous stop by the rapist cum murderer. The public will not know the truth cause we do not have any transparency in the court system especially if there is involvement on the higher or so call branded people. What is the motive of the rapist? Or he is being instructed. There is still allot of ? behind this cause we been living in the cage society, feed the public if they feel like.
We can’t blame the police cause they will not risk their life with their little pay. Why the police is not reporting directly to the station first I believe minimum kopi dululah. Lately we can see there are so many raping, robbing, murdering or abusing who should take the blame government, society, police or media. Is Malaysia still a safe place to live?????

the police sucks big time!
August 6th, 2004 at 12:23 am
I think the killer should be torture before he hang to death.I don’t think there should be any trial for him coz all the witnesses and evidence are enough to prove him that he is the killer,a cold blooded killer.
August 16th, 2004 at 7:38 pm
fuck melayu, kill the rapist, cut its (malayan monkey) body into 1000.000 pieces n give a pigs to eat it
September 2nd, 2004 at 4:38 pm
Malaysian police only know how to collect M$50 from poor people like me for speeding.Do you think they will protect innocent people like us? Go and sleep lah !

I think it is totally SHOCKING that the policemen DID NOT take any actions when the murderer sped off while the police had their Identity Cards.
I cannot imagine police DO NOT have to write a report even when they fired two shots.
WHAT TYPE OF work ethics is this? Who is their superior? What kind of standard is this??
i) The police SHOULD have immediately contacted other police cars to chase the murderer.
ii) I think the police involved needs disciplinarian action. They seem to have a sense of neglect OR couldn’t care less attitude.
iii) I think the police involved hold part responsibility towards Canny’s death.
iv) Also, the police involved seem to be under-achievers. IQ could be low. They don’t fit to wear a police uniform.
v) Lastly, the police force involved SHOULD BE sued for damages.
In USA, police are very well-trained and have a DUTY to protect the citizens. If police failed to perform their duty, they/or the city could be SUED for THOUSANDS of dollars. This is what you called human rights!
It is a citizen’s rights to be protected by law enforcement, whether you are a woman, male, adult or child. Whether you are brown or yellow. Whether you are rich or poor.
1) One time, a stranger knocked loudly and persistently at my door at night. I immediately called 911. In 5-7 minutes, a police car with 2 armed policemen arrived outside my house.
The man must have man sped off when he saw the police car coming. But the police still came inside my house and checked everything including my house backyard, area over the fence, and vicinity. They stayed with me for about 20 minutes. Then I was given their CELL PHONE number just in case if there is a emergency.
They also took down my home phone number and my cell phone.
2) In USA, if your car is stranded in the highway road, you can call 911 for emergency. At least one police car will be dispatched to stay with you until your car is towed to the nearest mechanic. You can even get a ride home from the police if it is a real need.
I feel very protected due to their professionalism and dedication.
Since citizens are tax payers, we have a right to expect law enforcement to perform their duty professionally.
I think the Canny Ong case is truly makes a mockery of the Kuala Lumpur police force. This is a bad joke.

I think Canny did not get out from the car because she wanted to try to get the car back safely to her mom. And because she’ll be leaving to US 2morrow, she dun want to give too much trouble to her family. May be she thot she could try to persuade the guy… she never thot that her fate is like that. She hasn’t been in Malaysia for a long time….She din know Malaysian can be that “ugly”….
