… began today in college. But this time around I didn’t join…
Finished class today at 3.30pm, had to attend a stupid briefing regarding the changes to my course at 4pm… stupid briefing indeed, didn’t tell us much that we don’t already know, and the things they told us (like the changes in lab fees), they could not tell us the justification for the changes… WTF??
Only thing I was interested in was the outcome of the course now that they’ve moved all the subjects from the validation course (Degree in Computer Systems and Networks) to the franchise course (Degree in Network Computing, by Coventry University, UK). Finally, they have the approval to graduate us with the Degree in Network Computing. So I’ll be getting that cert by this time next year I hope…
The whole time during the briefing, I was online chatting with ChrisHoo and fel over ICQ and MSN Messenger respectively… was using my iPAQ connected to tmnut hotspot wi-fi
After the briefing was over, I loitered around, not know what to do since it was only like 4.40pm and the bus back to civilization only comes at 5.30pm… the guys went back to the hostel rooms to change and go swimming (moi can’t swim
) so I went to the loo when they were gone…
So I was enjoying my little yellowish water graffiti action on the wall in a cubicle, when I heard an idiot next cubicle talking thru his phone asking for help… with that I realised that the debate competition begins today… coz he was asking his friends for points for his motion… stoopid fella really… he’s supposed to be brainstorming with his teammates but he was there spending precious time away asking his friend for help… geez…
That gave me an idea, why not I go sit in for one of the debate session, I was bored anyway… So, I did just that, walked towards the engineering block where they were supposed to meet…
Before that, back to why this semester I pulled out of the debate. Well, it’s an inter-school debate competition, organised by zhiling of the English Language Society (or some club like that). She came to me one day persuading me and my gang to join the debate since there were no representatives from my school (SOCIT - School of Computing and IT). But I told her I can’t make it for the debate since I won’t be around during next week (I’m going to Singapore, more on that next time) and we don’t really have a substitute that can take my place if I’m not around…
Too bad for us I guess, maybe next time, since AUP (American University Programme), SOLLA (School of Language and Liberal Arts), SOSAM (School of Science and Maths), SOBAL (School of Business and Law), SOEAT (School of Engineering and Technology) and SOHAI (School of Hentai, Anime and Illustrations…. hehe, okay, I made that up… if there’s a SOHAI school, Wilson Tsui would be the dean.. LOL!) all joined in the debate
Back to my day, met up with zhiling and then yakked a bit as the debate only start at 5pm. I joined in the debate that she was supposed to chair, with the motion “Businesses Should Do Anything They Can To Make Profits” (yawn!
). The reason I joined in that room is because it should be exciting, seeing one of the defending champion, Abigail was in that group.
But alas, it turned out to be a very badly one-sided affair. The other team just sucked so much that the first speaker practically read off the essay he wrote on the paper he was holding (took only 3 mins out of the allocated 7 mins), the supposedly second speaker freaked out just after the opposing team first speaker finished, so she got replaced by the substitute (which caused a controversy since the head judge wanted to become anal and wanted to disallow it) and that substitute was like a clock that you have wind up, coz she speaks for a while, then pauses and wait for her teammate to write points for her, and then she resumes speaking again. It just went downhill since the start of the debate… WTF!!!
I sneaked out of the room at 5.20pm to walk towards the bus stop to get home… then again, I would’ve walk out at that time even if I don’t have a bus to catch… came back and zhiling messaged me on ICQ:
+ z h i l i n g: guess you already know who won?
Teeheee

preliminary rounds are usually like that la… very one-sided… but come to the finals, i’m sure it’ll be interesting.
