Saw the following banner the other night when I was out for mamak with tsewei:

It said: Discover the newly-enhanced Proton Waja - Strength comes from within*
Hahahahhahah!
Strength comes from within! Definitely you’ll need some strength to drive a Proton car.
* due to the car body construction being made of milo can

you got that right…. only malaysians cars, Airbags - a life saving device - is an accessories, not a standard features…
January 6th, 2005 at 11:30 am
and they are going to raise the price of the cars… sigh…

Made of a Milo can?! Are you serious?! Milo can can’t be crush that easily! I suspect local made cars are even far more fragile then the Milo Can…as usual..M’sia Boleh..buat kereta.. tapi quality murah
January 8th, 2005 at 12:09 pm
yeah, not milo tin. that’s giving them too much credit. probably those recyclable aluminum cans we use for coke n pepsi where the entire thing can be totally squashed with just one stomp of ur feet. =p

I loved the national car when it was first started, but not when there are not much changes for the better after decades!
I don’t expect much comfort, I still drive a Proton Saga Aeroback, which will be my last Proton. Safety is a key important feature that should be in cars developed today, and airbags are a necessity, not an optional accessory!
Doubt I own cars? I DO own cars, mind you
Imported cars don’t cost as much, but thanks to the anti-competitive measures put in place by our Bolehland government to protect home-brew companies like Proton, the cars are out of most M’sians’ reach. Mercedes and BMWs aren’t that expensive out there, except when the price is hiked up due to the government’s intervention.
Adrian, go fcuk yourself for being an ignorant fool for believing that I do not have the rights to complain and “tak puas hati” with the kereta nasional.
To other readers, let’s just ignore this Adrian, perhaps he just managed to save enough money to buy a Proton Waja and got really red-eyed to see this banter on the car he’s getting
P/S - This is my blog, my personal blog site. I’ll shut up when I want to
January 10th, 2005 at 10:54 pm
Adrian: think about this.. U buy car, u are a consumer. As a consumer, u have the right to know that you are given the BEST possible product that gives you sufficient comfort, n most of all, safety.
nothing is 100% safe, but u would want as much as it can offer for wat u pay. value for money. we malaysians pay a lot for cars (as compared to the americans for eg) thanx to import taxes. if foreign cars aren’t imposed such taxes, cars would b cheap n no one will bother with protons. it’s just a way to ensure the survival of proton, at the expense of our safety of course (since we got no choice but to buy proton when we are not so rich)

hello brother, apasal nie cakap2 kasar kat sini? Suka2 orang ler nak express orang punya pendapat. Freedom of speech… you kena ingat ini blog tau. Apahal pulak u cinta sangat ngan itu kereta nasional? Kereta nasional tu bukannya bagus sangat sekarang kalau kita bandingkan ngan kereta luar yang baru2 tu. Harga pun jauh lain. Kerete luar lebih bagus then lagi murah. Apa u nak cakap? Ini Tahun 2005 ler brother… AFTA (ASEAN Free Trade Area)….

Adrian…before I make comments I would like to compliment your bad command in English. Alright, I’m currently in Melbourne, Australia….whats hillarious is Proton is doing SO BAD here due to their incompetent quality. They are competing with Holden which is the national car of Australia and Holden’s are at par with cars built from the top car manufacturers worldwide. This is how Proton is fairing overseas and yes I have driven BMW’s and Mercedes (anyway your language is horrendous, I really dont understand what ‘people also die in their in them’ means).
January 11th, 2005 at 1:44 am
Adrian: As a consumer, we can and we DO HAVE the rights to complain. By the way, are you trying to tell us accidents happened due to the vehicle and not the driver?EON, the manufacturer of PROTON, are too focused on profit more then quality, don’t you think so? What the average of new foreign cars in the market every year compared to Proton? By the way, trying knocking your NATIONAL car and get a test drive on foreign cars and bang yourself on to the wall. I suggest you trying the foreign just in case your PRO-PROTON idea dissapoint you.
Besides, I can see everyone here can see that M’sia has raised the tax of foreign cars to “promote” national cars. But then I can’t blame you, some LOSERS needed to be cheated so National cars can survive. Mind you, I do own a car, WIRA previously, I got fed up sending to the workshop for maintainence in the end I got myself a 2nd hand Nissan which is far MORE BETTER!

we all know Proton hasn’t really improved over the last 2 decades. they keep emphasizing dat they r getting better, providing better comfort, safety & such, but come on… consumers know better. we’r not deliberately “hentam-ing” Proton, but it’s a fact that there has been little improvement. prices of Protons keep going up, but not enuf effort & R&D has been put in to really improve its standard. we’re consumers, of cos we would want something worth the money we’re paying for. even small cars should come with the right type of comfort fit for small cars. u can see in the Msian auto industry, even the airbag is considered “optional accessories” when it should be made “mandatory”.
it’s very obvious dat whenever Proton feels threatened, the government will increase the prices of other cars to prevent more foreign models on the road. but if the consumer has the capability to fork out more, most will go for foreign models. mind you, foreign models are actually cheap in their own country. it’s when they come into Msia, all the taxes start and you get the price you see today.
so to Adrian Tan, stop lambasting us for being un-Malaysian. This is not about being patriotic or otherwise. this is about consumer’s rights and protection.
January 11th, 2005 at 12:19 pm
Adrian Tan : You are trying to show your patriotism by swallowing any shit that your government decide to shove down your throat?
January 11th, 2005 at 6:42 pm
hohoh Renault got class man, compare to Proton bicycle. heheh

Complaints, complaints. Yes, we have overpaid for cars in Malaysia compared to any other country except Singapore. What to do? IF you have yr own business and don’t pay taxes, you can afford any car you like. For salary earners, our gross pay - 30% tax = nett pay. So some professionals earns less than pasar malam traders. See those big flashy camries driven by your friendly pasar malam hawker? I have seen char kwai teow boss with bmw 5 series and lots of Toyota camry driven by “market women”.
Fixed Salary earners with no free petrol or car allowances from company (like me) could only afford saga, wira and I booked my first waja.
I don’t believe spending 2 whole year pay on a car. And, I only drive from home to work everyday, park the “moving house” in the sun. If I pay no taxes, I can afford a bmw…….
